It’s hard when you find yourself searching for a new job, it can get disheartening when you keep seeing job ads asking for extensive experience. Thankfully there are still a few industries out there where you can get your feet wet and learn on the job.
Whether you’re looking for a career change or just want to find a job quickly without going through a lengthy re-training process, we have five jobs you can do without experience.
The hospitality industry has a wide and varied array of roles that you can get into with little to no experience. You can become a barista, bartender, waiter, host / hostess, kitchen hand or dishwasher.
Hospitality work suits those people who like shift work, there are often early mornings or late nights depending on if you’re serving coffees or cocktails. You’ll work most weekends and often evenings. You need to be personable and friendly, always happy to have a chat with your customers.
It’s a job where you’ll need to be fit and fast on your feet, you will definitely get your steps up, running food to tables all night. You’ll need to be confident in your ability to either mix drinks or carry multiple plates, you’ll get some training, but hospitality is very much a sink or swim situation.
The perks of working in hospitality includes; learning how to mix or make certain drinks, a free drink or meal on your shift if you work over a certain number of hours. It’s a fun environment especially if you enjoy foodie culture or the music scene you could work an event that you would have paid to go to.
Becoming a domestic cleaner is a fantastic job opportunity for anyone who’s after a flexible job where they can choose their own hours. You don’t need any direct cleaning experience to work in this industry, the beauty of it is you already have the experience.
Domestic cleaning covers all the cleaning we have each done in our own homes. This includes tasks like washing, ironing, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, dusting etc.
Domestic cleaning suits almost everyone, students, stay-at-home mothers, fit semi retirees looking for some extra cash, husband and wife cleaning teams and basically anyone who wants to work for themselves.
You can choose your own hours and where you want to work so you can stick close to home and only work when it suits you. Or you can pick up all the extra clients and work full-time.
Expert training is provided, and you have support from a dedicated area manager who will assist you with any client rostering and administration. You often don’t have to see your clients, after your initially meet them, it’s not unusual for our cleaners to be asked to come and do the cleaning when their clients are at work, so you can just get the cleaning done and listen to music while you do.

If you’ve got a bubbly personality and you don’t mind dealing with customers, you might be a perfect fit for retail. This industry often doesn’t require you to have experience, provided your eager and happy to learn you’ll receive some training when you first start, often specific to the store or brand you’re working with.
Those who would describe themselves as a ‘people person’ are often the right kind of fit for a role like this. People who enjoy talking with people and aren’t afraid to upsell or push for a sale suit this role well. You might have to work split shifts, shift work or weekends. Any time the shops can be open this is when you might have to work.
The discounts for the brand you work with are often high for retail workers, it can be anywhere from 20 – 50%. Customer service experience is useful in a variety of jobs across other industries. You don’t have to run around as much as in hospitality or domestic cleaning, but if it’s quiet it can be a little boring.
There are lots of jobs working filling stock in the supermarkets, factories or warehouses. If you work this kind of job, you’ll need to bend and lift a lot of stock. It can get repetitive but it’s kind of job that you don’t need any experience or any real training to do.
Stock fill roles suit people who don’t like to talk to people. It’s the kind of job where you can listen to your own music and not really engage with people. You generally won’t have to talk to customers or engage in much small talk with your colleagues. You might have to work shift work hours. There are often shifts to be filled in the early morning or after hours when the stores are closed.
If you work for a specific company or brand, you might get a discount for that brand or company. If you really don’t like dealing with people, this role will suit you perfectly and you won’t have to worry about making small talk with your co-workers.
They are always looking for people in sales, it’s a growth area. There are strict expectations on your performance in sales and you’ll be asked to meet your KPIs. But they want you to excel so they provide training when you enter a sales role.
Sales roles are best suited to confident, personable people. You’ll need to have the gift of the gab, being able to talk your way into and out of situations. You’ll have to close deals and keep a lot of information about the service or product in your head to fight any objections the client or customer might have.
The biggest perk of working in sales is that you generally get commissions or performance bonuses. If you’re good at what you do, you’ll look forward to the time of the month that this comes up.
