The Most Common Places You Overlook When Doing Domestic Cleaning

Whether you have a regular cleaning schedule or always tidy up a room every time you walk in, numerous areas around your home often get overlooked. From the scuff marks on your walls to the dust accumulating in your vents, here are the most common places people forget about when domestic cleaning.

The underside of your furniture

You may do a quick vacuum under your bed or sofa now and again, but have you moved the furniture for a decent look at the underside? You will be surprised by what can accumulate. We recommend giving the underside of your furniture a vacuum twice a year to remove cobwebs, bugs, and dust.

Speaking of dust – we tend to forget about it if it’s beyond our sight. Be sure to routinely clean the tops of your doors, upper cabinets, picture frames, and ceilings to remove dirt. A duster with an extendable handle can help you reach these high and harder-to-reach places. You’d be amazed how much dust can gather in a short amount of time.

Walls and baseboards

Food splatter, bug marks, scuffs, and other grime can leave your walls looking less than ideal. Even dust can stick to your walls, especially if you have textured wallpaper. Give your walls a refresh by wiping them with a damp cloth. Start at the top and work your way down, and while you’re there, wipe your baseboards down.

Door knobs

For something we touch so often, it’s easy to overlook cleaning your door handles. However, with so many family members and guests touching them, it is important to clean your handles regularly to prevent the spread of germs.

Indoor plants

Whether you have a collection of real or faux plants, you can easily bring back their vibrant colour by removing dust from the leaves. You can clean small, real plants with a quick spray under the shower head or, for larger ones, gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth. Use a duster to lightly brush faux leaves, or if you have a lot of plants to clean, you can speed up the process with a hairdryer.

Air filters and vents

Check your filters for dust and grime build-up if you have a central heating system, ventilation, or a heat pump. A regular cleaning can ensure your system works efficiently and prevent it from circulating dust and allergens back into your home.
