The first step toward efficient cleaning is to know what you are cleaning, what the surface is made of, and if there is a coating on it. The cleaning method that works for one surface may ruin another.
The client will walk you through the home and show you which rooms, surfaces, fixtures and fittings, furnishing and appliances they want you to clean.
Do:
Don’t:
Buffing is a finishing method, not a cleaning method.
It is usually done after wet wiping a surface to create a shiny finish.
The AD Way: Use a dry microfibre cloth for buffing.
Dust can scratch and damage household surfaces.
Vacuum cleaners help remove dust without spreading it. Feather dusters, acrylic dusters, and microfibre cloths are also useful depending on the surface.
Paying attention to detail without taking hours is the key.
NOTE: Always rinse with clean water after use.
Do not use on silk, acetates or rayons.
It’s better to leave something you are not sure of than attempting to iron the garment and damage it...
As part of the client’s service, you may be required to make beds too...
Microfibre is a polyester and nylon fibre that is used to make fabric...
The key to reducing household mould is reducing moisture where possible...
Polishing is used on wood and metal surfaces using wax, Silvo, Brasso or cloth...
Always read product labels for usage, dilution, surfaces and safety warnings...
Use light circular motion, avoid excessive pressure, and rinse thoroughly...
Spot cleaning targets only visible dirty areas instead of full surfaces...
Includes removal methods for wax, grease, mould, rust, dust, oil and more...
Always vacuum carpets last and use correct attachments and settings...
Melamine foam that removes marks using only water from smooth surfaces...
Use a damp cloth or wipe to clean surfaces and finish by buffing dry...
The first step toward efficient washing is to know what you are washing. There are many different methods to sorting. Although the client will sort the garments for you it’s important for you to understand the process so you can identify when a sorting error has been made.
Reading the labels on each item will prevent issues like colour stains or shrinkage. If in doubt, leave it out.
Whites: Wash separately in hot water. Avoid colour transfer.
Reds/Brights: Wash separately or with similar colours to avoid bleeding.
Lights: Wash in warm or cold water (pastels, creams, light greys).
Darks: Wash inside-out where possible. Use cold or warm water depending on fabric.
Specialty items: Wash separately as per care instructions.
Wool: May shrink in heat. Hand wash cold or dry clean.

Silk: Hand wash cold or dry clean recommended.
Linen: Wash gently; often dry clean or hand wash.

Economy: Uses less water.
Short: For lightly soiled items.
Regular: For heavy or everyday washing.
Permanent: Reduces wrinkles and creasing.
Delicate: Gentle wash for sensitive fabrics.
Soak: For heavily soiled clothing.
Tumble Dry: Use correct heat settings and avoid overloading.
Line Dry: Sun helps kill bacteria; avoid fading by turning clothes inside out.
Rack Dry: Place in ventilated area or near airflow.
Flat Dry: Dry on flat surface to prevent stretching.
Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda at the bottom and run a short hot cycle for extra deodorising and stain removal.
Check oven type before cleaning.
Level 1: Empty crumbs, wipe exterior.
Level 2: Use bicarb paste for stains.
Level 3: Bicarb + vinegar paste for stubborn marks.
Washing machine: Run hot cycle with vinegar + bicarb. Clean seals and detergent tray.
