Training Manual

The first step toward efficient cleaning is to know what you are cleaning, what the surface is made of, and if there is a coating on it. The cleaning method that works for one surface may ruin another.

The client will walk you through the home and show you which rooms, surfaces, fixtures and fittings, furnishing and appliances they want you to clean.

Cleaning Tips

Do:

  • Remove dust, soil, streaks, spots, finger marks or stains

How to Buff

Item #1

Washing and Drying Clothes

How to Wash Clothes

The first step toward efficient washing is to know what you are washing. There are many different methods to sorting. Although the client will sort the garments for you it’s important for you to understand the process so you can identify when a sorting error has been made.

Reading the labels on each item will prevent issues like colour stains or shrinkage. If in doubt, leave it out.

Sorting and Washing by Colour

Whites: Wash separately in hot water. Avoid colour transfer.

Reds/Brights: Wash separately or with similar colours to avoid bleeding.

Lights: Wash in warm or cold water (pastels, creams, light greys).

Darks: Wash inside-out where possible. Use cold or warm water depending on fabric.

Specialty items: Wash separately as per care instructions.

Natural Fibres

Wool: May shrink in heat. Hand wash cold or dry clean.

Cotton: Durable but may shrink. Wash warm or cold.

Silk: Hand wash cold or dry clean recommended.

Linen: Wash gently; often dry clean or hand wash.

Manufactured Fibres

Acrylic: Machine washable but may pill.

Nylon: Wash cold; dries quickly.

Polyester: Easy care but stain resistant issues.

Rayon: Hand wash or dry clean; delicate fabric.

Washing Methods
